Suso FA, Edwards Jr HM. Influence of various chelating agents on absorption of cobalt-60, iron-59, manganese-54, and zinc-65 by chickens. Poultry Sci. 1968; 47(5):1417-1425. (CA70)[In chicks the absorption of 60Co and 59Fe was decreased as the levels of EDTA increased from 0 to 0.24% of the diet. 65Zn absorption was significantly increased as the levels of EDTA were increased from 0 to 0.165T of the diet, attaining maximal absorption at 0.125% EDTA. 54Mn followed a similar absorption pattern. Addns. of different chelating agents, diethylenetriamine-pentaacetic acid, ethylenediamine(di(0-hydroxyphenylacetic acid)), (2-hydroxyethylamino)-diacetic acid, and hydroxyethylenediaminetriacetic acid, to corn-soybean diets did not show a direct relation between stability consts. and absorption levels of 60Co, 59Fe, 54Mn, and 65Zn, but a relation among stability consts., levels of sequestrene in the diet, and absorption of radioisotopes was suggested.
